Information
Ligue 1, contested by 20 clubs,
follows the usual double round-robin format. Each club plays the others twice, once at home and once away. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points at the end of the season. If teams are tied, then count the goal difference, total goals scored and head-to-head goal difference. A playoff at a neutral venue follows if necessary. The top three teams in Ligue 1 qualify for the Champions League, with the top two proceeding directly to the group phase and the third one going to the qualifiers. The fourth ranked team enter the Europa League. If the winner of Europa League has qualified for the Champions League, the third place directly  enter the Champions League. Both of the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue winners can play in the Europa League. If they qualify for the Champions League through their leagues, their places go to the top ranked teams that have not qualified for the Champions League.The two teams at the bottom are relegated to the Ligue 2. The third-to-last and the playoffs’ winner of Ligue 2 play a double-legged playoffs and the winner will enter the Ligue 1 next season.
